In the quiet town of Mount Pleasant, Texas also known as the "Horse Trailer Capital of Texas" long before paved roads and busy highways stretched across the land, our family story began with determination, faith, and love.
Our grandparents, Aquilla and Izora Green, arrived in Mt. Pleasant by horse and buggy, carrying little more than hope for a better future. Though the exact year has faded with time, their journey became the foundation of generations to come.
Dusty roads, open skies, and the strength of family guided them as they planted roots in East Texas.
Years later, their daughter, Gwendolyn Geneva Green, would begin a journey of her own. At only fifteen years old, young and fearless, she followed her heart .
On September 18, 1954, she married the love of her life, Ozell Hudson Sr. Their l story began with courage, youthful dreams, and a promise to build a future together no matter the challenges ahead.
While Ozell proudly served his country in the Army, Gwendolyn stayed behind with his parents, Annie and Andrew Hudson. During those years, she learned the strength of patience, family, and sacrifice.
After serving in the Army, Ozell returned home and brought his Texas bride west to Daggett. Eventually, the growing Hudson family settled in Barstow, California where Ozell purchased a modest home at 34786 Arbor Way, later renamed 640 Arbor Way.
That little three-bedroom, one-bathroom house became the center of a world filled with laughter, discipline, love, and unforgettable memories. Inside those walls lived two hardworking parents and ten energetic children — seven girls and three boys. The home was always full: full of noise, full of life, full of shoes at the door, shared bedrooms, homemade meals, sibling arguments, late-night talks, and unconditional love.
The children learned resilience there. They learned how to share, how to protect one another, and how to stand together through every season of life. Though the house may have seemed small to outsiders, to the Hudson family it was rich with warmth, faith, and togetherness.
From a horse and buggy in Mt. Pleasant to a crowded family home on Arbor Way, the legacy of the parents of Ozell and Gwendolyn Hudson Aquilla continued to grow through each generation — a story of endurance, migration, sacrifice, military service, family pride, and deep-rooted love that still lives on today. ❤️
